We now reach the climax of prophecies of deliverance. God has told His people what He will do to deliver them despite their grumbling about how He will do this through King Cyrus. God now tells them to get out of Babylon and go far away from the Chaldeans. The 2nd Exodus has come and they are to announce it to the world as a witness and testimony to the faithfulness of God. Cyrus made a statement saying, “All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me” and he called on the people of God to “go up to Jerusalem and build the house of the Lord God of Israel…. which is in Jerusalem”. {Ezra 1v1-3}

Yesterday, we looked at profit being gained. Today, we read of profit that was lost. If these people had only obeyed The Lords Word and commandments. Their gain would have been great, and their peace would have flowed like a river. There’s nothing worse than hearing the words “look what might have been” and Isaiah symbolically uses the image of a flowing river to epitomise peace. The image isn’t that of a small stream but of a deep, flowing river heading towards the sea. God’s peace is deep and flowing, it’s not a shallow, surface peace. Jesus said “My Peace I give unto you” this isn’t just any peace; this is the Peace of God given to us by The Prince of Peace.

Q. Who is this speaker as it doesn’t say anything about His name, but he carries the Name that is above all other names. Q. So why does our messiah speak here? It is because King Cyrus is about to fade out of the scene. Earlier in this chapter God had spoken about “new things from this time, even hidden things and you did not know them”. …

We have all heard the voice of our parents calling us when we were children. Some of you may still remember your schoolteacher calling {maybe shouting} your name. Some may remember the call of duty which must have been daunting and demanding at the time. We all have heard the tempters call which is often subtle, luring, and deadly. Parents have known the call of a baby, a child, a junior, and teenagers and even now as adults they still call. We know that the heavens call to us is in Psalm 19 “day after day they utter speech and night after night, they reveal knowledge” yet above and beyond any of these, is the distinct, unmistakable call of God.

Join us as Visiting Preacher, Nicky Eatapalaka, exhorts us to be ready to step out in faith because as we prepare for difficulty, we can also expect the victory through the power of the Holy Spirit!
Key Scripture: Psalm 34:16-19 “but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. …”

This is astonishing because Isaiah uses the same argument against Israel as he did against the Chaldean and Babylonian people. They trusted in dead idols, but The Lord proved to them that they could do or say nothing. He told them about the future. Now, God let them in on the way He did things and why. He had told them what He was going to do beforehand and then fulfilled it to the letter. If He hadn’t, they would have said that their idols had done it. How blind can a people be, and yes, this is Israel, Gods own people, worshipping idols!!

The city and culture had become a law to itself. Sin had become the people’s way of life and deliberately did things that were bad, bent on doing evil. They were a law unto themselves and accountable to no one. They said, “no one sees me”. Their thinking was warped, and this way of living led from one disaster into another.

Could I encourage you to take your time as you read these words, for they are profound. The nation that threw its weight around, giving orders to other nations is now silenced. The ruler who put others into chains now goes into the enemies’ dark dungeons as prisoner and the lady of kingdoms loses her position amongst the nations of the earth. …

This prophecy of Isaiah has been called the “Romans of the Old Testament” and right now we are looking at a poem from Isaiah which carries a single theme, “worldly power and arrogance”. This chapter is all about what happens when people become self-centered and live their lives without God. The Babylon lifestyle can certainly be seen today in our Islands, towns and cities.

The words that are underlined have a lot to do with the great Victorian preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon. He was years ahead of his time and nicknamed “The Prince of Preachers”. On Sunday morning, January 6th, 1850, he was prevented from going to a church service because of a really bad snowstorm, so the young 16 years Spurgeon went into an old local Methodist Chapel in Artillery Street, Colchester. Inside there were only a few people. The Minister hadn’t turned up and so a thin looking man went up to the pulpit to speak. …

The word “calamity” in Hebrew is “ra” and is mentioned 640 times in the Bible. It has a range of meanings, like – a nasty taste or a full moral evil. We can read 275 cases where it refers to trouble or calamity. In our text, it refers to calamity in times of war like that which involved King Cyrus whom God used. In fact, this pagan king was called “my chosen” by God.

The musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” comes across as God’s mission gone wrong. It somehow presents the cross as a tragedy. The bible presents the cross of Jesus as a triumph, mission accomplished. Jesus cried out Himself “It is finished” and we know that the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom and a new and living way was opened up to the very heart and presence of God (Heb 10v20).

Join us as Pastor Pete Dale speaks on the question… What does the Glory of God actually mean? God is the creator of all things and is in charge of absolutely everything. When we get a glimpse of God’s Glory, something changes within us.
Key Scripture: John 17:1-5 & 20-24 – “After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you….””
