Fan The Flame (Day 110)

Fan The Flame (Day 110)

Based on His loving kindness and past interventions, Isaiah has interceded with God on behalf of Israel. He acknowledges that both he and they have miserably failed to obey His word. Now he pleads from another point of view. God is their creator. Would a potter want to deny the pot that He had made? Would he say that it had just appeared? A potter can’t just disown His own work, God was their heavenly Father, so they have a special relationship with Him. Isaiah pleaded with God that He would not permanently show His anger to Israel or remember their iniquity forever.

Fan The Flame (Day 109)

The Lord constantly acts on behalf of those who exercise faith in Him, who delight in doing what’s right and remembers Him and His ways. But just as constantly the people have sinned and indeed continue to do so. It raises the question, “shall we be saved?” Is there any hope for them? Isaiah acknowledges the terrible spiritual condition of God’s people. Their best efforts are stained with sin and were like filthy rags, Decay had set in, they were like a faded leaf. Sin itself had made a mess and like wind; they had been blown away.

Join us as Church Member Trevor Miles speaks about God’s economy. We all have our own currency, depending on which country we come from, but God also has a currency!

Key Scripture: Exodus 12:1-14 “The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. …”

Fan The Flame (Day 108)

Since time began, people have worshipped millions of gods. But nobody has ever imagined, heard or seen a god to compare with the Lord. What is it about Him that is unique? Many things make Him stand out, and Isaiah identifies, in particular the principles upon which He acts for His people.

Fan The Flame (Day 107)

The prayer of Isaiah moves now from intercessor to a bold cry that God would now show up in Israel’s situation based on what He did before when He broke through with mighty strength. His presence and power were so powerful at Mount Sinai that it made the mountain shake. …

Fan The Flame (Day 106)

This is a shocking thing to see just how far God’s people can stray. Today’s reading takes us back to the soul-searching song of Moses at the end of his life. Duet 32v9-10 – “for the Lord’s portion is His people, Jacob is the place of His inheritance. He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness, He shielded him, He cared for him, He guarded him as the apple of His eye…. He made him rise in the heights of the earth.”

Q. Why does the Lord trample out the vintage? {Bozrah, the capital of Edom means vintage} He now gives the explanation. The long-predicted day of vengeance has come, and the Redeemer is about to bring His wrath and vengeance upon the enemies of His people. The Lord did Calvary on His own when He bore the wrath of God on behalf of our sin. Now all who have refused His invitation to come, to take His yoke upon them and learn from Him but instead refused and stood against him will face God’s vengeance. It’s not as though they were not warned and we know God’s word is full of warnings. So, it is their choice.

Not everyone will submit or bow the knee to the Lordship of Jesus. There are and always will be those who oppose our King and badly persecuted those who have stood for Him. One of those ancient enemies was the Edomites. The ancestors of Esau didn’t really lose their hatred of the sons of Jacob. Their behavior and punishment are summed up in Amos 1v11 “This is what the Lord says, for three sins of Edom, and even for four, I will not relent. Because he pursued his brother with a sword and slaughtered the women of the land, because his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked.”

Here comes the proclamation and it goes out to the ends of the earth. The roads are to be resurfaced, and every imaginable obstacle is to be removed. From across the world, the nations are called to come to Zion. The work of salvation that the Lord set out to do will be finished, right down to the very last person. The reward for all His mighty work will be with Him, they will be called “The Holy People, the Redeemed of the Lord and Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.”

The Lord swears by His right hand and by the arm of His strength. For when God made a promise to Abraham because He could swear by no one greater, he swore by Himself, saying in Hebrews 6v13-14 “surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you”. In chapter 40, we saw how awesome and powerful God’s hand is and we also learned that His arm is not shortened that it cannot save. …

Join us as Pastor Pete Dale encourages us to know who we are. Caleb knew who he was, whose he was, and that is how he lived. Caleb could not have done what he did without knowing his identity and his authority.

Key Scripture: Romans 8:1-11 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death….”

Fan The Flame (Day 101)

Intercessors are seen as watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem. These are likened to the position of the “remembrancer” in the king’s court. He recorded all that was happening, took minutes of meetings, and wrote down everything that the King had promised the people in his land. Later, he would remind the king of what had been said and held him accountable to his promises. So, the watchmen act like “remembrancers” constantly reminding God in their prayers of His promises and, in particular, holding Him to the promise that He would make Jerusalem a praise on earth.

Fan The Flame (Day 110)

Fan The Flame (Day 100)

The Lord uses lots of images when describing His people in the book of Isaiah – the smoldering flax to lambs, from eagles to coronets and mitres, from captives to widows and now comes another image which is a woman who has lived a lonely, empty life but now true love has come, she can’t believe it, after all this time she now knows the deep love of her husband, she is delighted, overjoyed and the husband wonders how he ever lived without her.

Fan The Flame (Day 110)

Fan The Flame (Day 99)

This transformation of God’s people is now being shown, described to us in a certain way by Isaiah. Their sins had hidden His face from them, their hands had been stained with blood, even their fingers were filthy and defiled. Their lips had spoken lies and tongues had been unruly and cutting, BUT now they are to be given a new name, and the name is mentioned in Jeremiah 33v16 “in those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell safely. And this is the name by which she will be called “The Lord our Righteousness”.”
