Fan The Flame (Day 141)

Fan The Flame (Day 141)

You and I know when life is going well and we feel like everything around us is also good and thriving, we suddenly find it threatened, an enemy wants to wreck it. Maybe driven by jealousy, maybe someone wanting what we have or have something against us. Jealousy can be very cruel but worse, in fact Prov 27v4 says “anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?”

Fan The Flame (Day 140)

The 18th century, Sir John Fortescue, writing about the aftermath of fighting in Europe, wrote these moving lines “as far as the eye could see over the whitened plain, were scattered gun-timbers, wagons full of baggage, of stones, of sick men, carts and private carriages. …

There’s a lot of discussion around this prophecy. Q. Is it speaking of the sudden deliverance of God’s people from Babylon. Q. Is it the image of setting up the Christian church in the world, with the astonishing immediate success of the gospel?

Now it looks like there’s hassle and grief against those who respect and tremble at the Word of God. Notice God’s favor, blessing and protection on those who truly revere what God has to say. They clearly stand out but they are also a target for ridicule. Those who have abandoned God and turned away from His Word and His ways, now believe all kinds of pagan nonsense. …

Join us as Paster Pete Dale continues the Series entitled “Encounter” and how “God interruptions” changes lives! We remember Philip, Moses, Samuel, Paul, the Woman at the Well and the paralyzed man. The Lord is still doing that today!

Key Scripture: Luke 5:17-26 “One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick….”

Those who tremble at God’s word are now contrasted with those who choose their own ways. Not being anchored in God’s word, these OT people introduce things into their worship that were an abomination to the Lord. The words “as if” repeated in the text can be left out. We then have scriptural and unscriptural actions set out side by side. …

Fan The Flame (Day 135)

God was not against the temple. When His people returned from captivity, the rebuilding of the temple was a top priority and with the encouragement of the prophets, Haggai and Zechariah, the work was eventually completed. As we learned from Isaiah 44v28, it was God who chose King Cyrus to start the entire process. At the dedication of the first temple, Solomon pointed out that no house on earth can truly contain God, 1 Kings 8v27 “behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built.” Heaven is God’s throne and the earth is His footstool.

Fan The Flame (Day 134)

Here are the final undoing of Satan and all his work. In the new earth, fellowship with God will be unbroken and nothing will interfere or be able to disturb or interrupt this. There will be perfect harmony between us and God to such an extent that when it comes to the will of God, before God’s people begin to call in prayer, He will answer and while they are speaking, He will hear.

Fan The Flame (Day 141)

Fan The Flame (Day 133)

Let’s do a recap on what has been said through this poem. The future state will be so wonderful, so stunning that the past will not be remembered, it will be forgotten. It will be filled with joy, and weeping and crying will be unknown. Death will be removed, no one will take houses or lands, and all enemies brought under complete control and the causes of grief will be nonexistent. Isaiah now turns to one of the most difficult issues and one of life’s greatest griefs and that is the loss of a child.

Fan The Flame (Day 141)

Fan The Flame (Day 132)

I’m sure we have all seen massive building and gardening projects over the years, either next door to us, or maybe on our street or viewed on tv. Massive machinery comes in to do the groundwork, foundations are laid, expensive stone and granite arrive, ponds and streams are created, all the top materials are used, no expense spared. …

Fan The Flame (Day 131)

In the future of this new world creation, the person who is 100 years old will be a youth and the elderly will not be robbed of fulfilment. Longevity will return and the power of death will be unknown. You might ask what does the last phrase mean in our text? Well, Alec Motyer comments and says “We are again dealing with a metaphor, ever if, per impossible, a sinner was to escape detection for a century, the curse would still search him out and destroy him. Just as death will have no more power, so sin will have no more place.”

Fan The Flame (Day 141)

Fan The Flame (Day 130)

And so, the poem contained in Isaiah really begins to get a reality grip of us regarding the coming eternal bliss {a state of complete and perfect happiness}. God calls on us to be glad and rejoice forever in what He is about to create. The coming new city of Jerusalem describes metaphorically God’s perfect work of creating a place of safety and security. It’s a great comfort to read “the voice of weeping and crying will no longer be heard”.
